Behavior Modification: Principles and Procedures - by Raymond Miltenberger
This textbook describes behavior analysis principles and their varied applications. The first three chapters provide an introduction to the field, describe procedures for recording behavior, and describe graphing and research design. Chapters 4 though 8 discuss basic principles of behavior (reinforcement, extinction, punishment, stimulus control, and respondent conditioning). Chapters 9 through 25 discuss procedures for helping people change their behavior. These include procedures for learning and promoting desirable behaviors, procedures for understanding the variables responsible for behavior, and procedures for decreasing undesirable behaviors.

Educate Toward Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism - by Robert Schramm MA, BCBA
A Teaching Manual for the Verbal Behavior Approach to ABA. Robert Schramm has written a book that is a must read for parents, therapists, and teachers of children with autism. This book is clear, heartfelt, informative, and provides behavioral terminology in a way that is applicable and easy to understand. Teaching Language to Children with Autism or Other Developmental Disabilities- Mark L. Sundberg, PhD and James W. Partington, PhD
Teaching Language to Children with Autism or Other Developmental Disabilities is the foundation for anyone looking to implement a Verbal Behavior program. Based on B.F. Skinners behavioral analysisof language and the extensive body of empirical research that supports it, Teaching Language presents a concrete language assessment and intervention program. Relaying on the notion of errorless teaching, this manual explains the theory and methodology behind the Verbal Behavior approach to teaching children language. The first section of the book provides information regarding preparation for language intervention, including a brief language assessment with interpretive guide in order to determine the best place to start intervention according to the individual child's needs. There is also information onaugmentative communication and how to assess it's importance and necessity, as well as the form it should take. Section Two focuses on Development of initial communication skills for nonverbal children, while Section Three focuses on teaching more advanced language and social skills. Section Four presents issues relevant to the implementation of the language program in a child's natural and school environments. There are a variety of data sheets and skill tracking forms to guide you throughout the book

Verbal Behavior - by B.F. Skinner
The book extends the laboratory-based principles of selection by consequences to account for what people say, write, gesture, and think. Skinner argues that verbal behavior requires a separate analysis because it does not operate on the environment directly, but rather through the behavior of other people in a verbal community. He illustrates his thesis with examples from literature, the arts, and the sciences, as well as from his own verbal behavior and that of his colleagues and children. Perhaps it is because this theoretical work provides a way to approach that most human of human behavior that Skinner often called Verbal Behavior his most important work. Skinner (1957), argues, Language is a learned behavior under the functional control of environmental contingencies, as against Chomsky (1965), who argued that language is innate to humans and results due to physiological functions and processes, and environmental variables like reinforcement had little effect on it . In the present context, this book has immense significance in teaching language to children with Autism

The Verbal Behavior Approach: How to Teach Children With Autism and Related Disorders - by Mary Barbera, Tracy Rasmussen
The Verbal Behavior (VB) approach is a form of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), that is based on B.F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior and works particularly well with children with minimal or no speech abilities. In this book Mary Lynch Barbera draws on her own experiences as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst and also as a parent of a child with autism to explain VB and how to use it.This step-by-step guide provides an abundance of information about how to help children develop better language and speaking skills, and also explains how to teach non-vocal children to use sign language. An entire chapter focuses on ways to reduce problem behavior, and there is also useful information on teaching toileting and other important self-help skills, that would benefit any child. This book will enable parents and professionals unfamiliar with the principles of ABA and VB to get started immediately using the Verbal Behavior approach to teach children with autism and related disorders

Behavior Analysis of Language & Cognition Editors: Steven C. Hayes, Linda J. Hayes, Masaya Sato, & Koichi Ono
This book, originating from the Fourth International Institute on Verbal Relations, provides a contemporary look at the nature of stimulus relations and verbal events, and their impact on cognitive activity. The book covers a range of basic and applied topics, but throughout the book, authors return to a common question: how do language and cognition work? Some of the best authors in the field present their answers to that question here.

The Assessment of Basic Language & Learning Skills (ABLLS) - by J. Partington & M. Sundberg

The VB-MAPP Set: The Verbal Behavior Milestone Assessment & Placement Program - by Mark L. Sundberg, PhD, BCBA
The VB-MAPP Set: The Verbal Behavior Milestone Assessment & Placement Program - by Mark L. Sundberg, PhD, BCBA The VB-MAPP offers a new generation of the application of B. F. Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior to language assessment for children with autism or other developmental disabilities. The VB-MAPP is an assessment tool, curriculum guide, and skill tracking system that is also based on established developmental milestones, and research from the field of behavior analysis. The VB-MAPP has been field-tested with children with autism, children with other developmental disabilities, and typically developing children. The VB-MAPP provides a clear and accurate picture of an individual child's abilities, as well as potential language and learning barriers that may be hindering progress. The overall program contains:The Skills Assessment - Assesses 170 language and social milestones across 3 developmental levels. The milestones are quantifiable and measurable and can be used to document learning, or used for outcome research. The Barriers Assessment - An assessment of 24 language and learning barriers that may prevent a child from making progress. The Barriers Assessment can be used for intervention planning and to track progress. The Skills Task Analysis and Tracking System - Contains over 1000 skills that support the milestones, and can be used to record and track progress. The Placement and IEP Guide - Suggests direction for the intervention program based on the child's profiled strengths and weaknesses. The Transition Assessment - Identifies the skills needed for successful transition to less restrictive learning environments. This set contains 1 individual child scoring booklet and 1 Instructor's Manual and Placement Guide.
