Smita Awasti ABA India
Founder Trustee & Past President : Smita Awasthi. BCBA, PhD Candidate

Smita is the First Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) from India and the driving force behind the ABA movement in India since 2004. She is a PhD student of ABA at Queen's University Belfast, UK and a University topper in MA Psychology. Smita started her career in 1984 in a UNICEF project involved with children with developmental disabilities. In a career spanning 27 years, she has more than 20 years of experience in the field of Autism & Developmental Disabilities. She has conducted more than 50 workshops across India since 2004 and presented Autism related research papers & posters at ABA International Annual conferences in Beijing, Chicago, Atlanta, Phoenix, Oslo, San Antonio, Denver & Granada. She was a key note speaker at the QUART Conference Belfast. Smita provides consultation and training to families with children with Autism, Aspergers, PDD, ADHD, GDD etc from India, South East Asia, Middle East and UK, Germany & Canada. She is involved with "Train the Trainer" workshops in India, Dubai, Abu-Dhabi, Muscat, UK, She is actively involved with mentoring Behavior Analysts preparing for certification. She was awarded by the U.P Govt in India in 2005 for Awareness work in Autism. and by "Society for Advancement of Behavior Analysis" USA in 2009 for Univ based collaboration.. Even with her vast experience in working with children & adults with Autism, she considers herself to be a student of the subject of Behavior Analysis.
 
Poonam Gulati ABA India
Founder Trustee & Treasurer: Poonam Gulati

Poonam started her career 25 years ago working with little children as a Nursery teacher in Mumbai. Of the ten years, she was the Supervisor of the pre- primary section for 6 years. Later in Delhi she worked with children with Cerebral Palsy in the Spastic Society of India, teaching computers. Her love for working with children got her back into teaching and presently she volunteers her time with the NGOs 'Search Years' and 'Stones2milestones', teaching English. She is a Core Member in 'Search Years', wherein she guides and plans lessons in English for the volunteers there. Poonam is an entrepreneur and has organized many events successfully. She is the founding member of ABA India and is closely associated with ABA related activities.

Founder Trustee - Ajai Vadakkath

Ajai is a graduate in Electrical Engineering from the Naval College of Engineering Lonavla, and has served in the Indian Navy in various capacities for the past 20 plus years before taking premature retirement in 2011. Since the diagnosis of his son in 2004, understanding the need to have high quality behavioral intervention in the region he worked assiduously to bring qualified ABA practitioners to South India to help children in Bangalore and also inform parents on the merits of ABA. He has organized numerous small workshops and presentations on ABA since 2005. With the limited resources at that time, he was able to set up a viable home-based ABA program run by qualified ABA practitioners for a small group of children in Bangalore and this was also instrumental in spreading the efficacy of ABA within the parent community.

Founder Trustee - Namita Somani

Namita Somani is the mother of a non-verbal child with Global Developmental Delay and Autism. Her association with ABA started 9 years ago when she first met Ms. Smita Awasthi BCBA, and has ever since been using ABA based therapy for her child with positive results. She is based in Kolkata and has started a centre there in affiliation with Behavior Momentum India. The centre is called Amrit Somani Memorial Centre and it uses ABA based interventions for training individuals with Developmental and Behavioral disorders.

Gita has been extensively working with children with autism for over a decade through We CAN, a resource center in Chennai, which she co-founded in 2001. Originally a practicing Chartered Accountant and a Company Secretary, she is a now also a BCaBA , led by a passion to counsel and train parents of children with autism in understanding and applying the principles of behavior analysis. As a Trustee of Altius Foundation, which works in the field of education, she is incorporating ABA concepts with neurotypical children.

Dr. Priyanka Babu  ABA India
Vice President - North :Dr.Priyanka Babu, BCBA-D

Dr. Priyanka, is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst \96 Doctoral ( BCBA-D ) and has completed her coursework from University of North Texas. She has been working for 6 years in the area of voice, speech and communication in children with autism and other developmental disabilities. She is an MBBS & MS in ENT. She has a master's degree in Otorhinolaryngology and a fellowship in Voice Disorders from The Voice Clinic, George Washington University,Washington D.C. (USA). She worked on Neurolaryngological speech disorders at the National Institute of Health, Bethseda, MD, USA. Her primary interest is in Skinner's Verbal Behavior Approach and Application of ABA principles to teach language and deal with behavioral issues in children with Autism and Developmental Disabilities . She currently is the Center Director for a leading Intervention Center in Delhi for children with language delays.She has conducted a series of training workshops for professionals and parents.
 
 
Geetika Kapoor ABA India
Vice President- East: Sunetra Das Gupta

Sunetra Das Gupta is an Arts Graduate from Scottish Church College University Of Calcutta. On completion of Graduation, she completed Teachers Training and Montessori Training. She has an experience of over twelve years as a school teacher. For past three and half years ,Sunterra is practicing Applied Behavior Analysis and working for Amrit Somani Memorial Centre in affiliation with the Behavior Momentum Of India(Kolkata),working as a Behaviorial Trainer. Along with her work,she is also pursuing an online course on Applied Behavior Analysis with the University Of North Texas,USA.
 
 
Suruchi Sancheti ABA India
Vice President -Central: TasneemHegde, MS, BCaBA

Tasneem is an ABA practitioner who received her MS degree with honors in Clinical Psychology from Indian Institute of Psychology and Research, Bangalore. She began pursuing her interest in Behavioral Psychology by working as a Junior ABA therapist under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. She subsequently worked as a lead therapist in home programs and since then has successfully worked her way up to gaining rigorous experience in the field of Autism and Developmental Disabilities over the years. She currently works in Bangalore and is providing centre-based ABA services and works with schools for handling problem behaviours and programming for classrooms. Tasneem's research interests include teaching community and daily living skills using effective procedures and importance of treatment integrity for maximizing results. She cites ethical/professional practices of ABA therapy as her favorite area within behavior analysis and is often seen passionately talking to parents about it.

Joint Secretary : Razia Shahzad Ali

Razia is a parent of two beautiful children, one of whom has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her association with ABA started in the year 1999, when she started using ABA based therapy under the consultation of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst to solve several behavioral issues of her child. ABA not only helped in reducing the behaviors slowly and steadily to negligible but also made her child more social to the surroundings she is living in. She learnt to communicate her needs to her family. Razia is meticulous with habits of precise data taking and has been working for the past 10 years under the guidance of a BCBA. She is presently working with 2 children with a diagnosis of ASD in Mumbai. She plans to pursue her ABA studies and certification in the near future.

Vice President - Special Schools Liaison: Shreenivas B, MS, M.Phil

Sreenivas Bandlapalle, is an education enthusiast who has amassed post-graduate degrees in Education, Psychology and Linguistics from Osmania University, Hyderabad. Further, he has completed M.Phil in Psycholinguistics and is currently pursuing his Ph. D in Psycholinguistics, Hyderabad. He has worked as an Instructional designer and quality analyst for 9 years in multinational companies. However his true passion lies in Applied Behaviour Analysis. He spends as much as time as possible trying to connect with schools and other educational institutes to talk about ABA and its importance in today\92s times.
